She makes it happen!

More and more African women are standing up and doing more for themselves and their families creatively and financially. It is always important to support a course that empowers and recognizes women that are doing more to help themselves and to change the world around them. This made us happy to be part of the media partners of the day.

Fashion picks of the week: Classy Africans and Social media's 18/10/15

This is our first post on 'picks of the week'. We would select the top ten pictures  that the 'Classy Africans' team likes and top ten liked by you on social media and post weekly.

Always be fashion ready..... Always be classy!!!

We really like this one because it defies the 'don't wear big clothing apparel up and down' rule. She looks simple, beautiful classy and done!!!! @ olarslim

The classy little black dress. Althoughneckline is fresh it has a vintage feel. The stones make it pop and the gold takes away whatever boringness the 'Black' could have had. We say she killed it!! @iamnini1

@melangemode in her own design is our next pick of the week. Simple and clean trousers paired with a black top, and that hat add the extra.

@skinnyhipster we like this dress for two reasons, the lace trimmings and the spirit in the pictures, it makes it that much more than a little pink dress

@alerolly looks beautifully made up by @tinurella and she dazzles in her dress, and look at the cut of the dress, it's amazing.

The reason we like this one, I hope is pretty obvious. @royalpebble proves that you can look classy, simple and yet be sassy.

@aduke_moritz looks fab in her dress. The structure on the top is adorable and the beautiful floral tail peeping in through the side just seals it for us.

@Tashacobbs in her lovely metallic coloured dress and clutch. Stunning.

@quincess_mdy in her owndesign and style. We always like to see unconventional plays on the African fabric and the hat makes the styling here unconventional. We approve.

This picture taken by @Bighstudios we like, not just for the outfit but because we see laughter, friendship, love, community and genuine happiness in the picture. We say true memory and not just pose was captured here.

Now to your picks, a listing of the pictures most liked this week.

Q & A: How to monetize your blog/website

.... Hello blogs it's been forever, but we are back.

Whatever is worth doing is worth doing well and if you were to do something it's always good to ask questions from those who have 'gone ahead' or 'gone before'. Plus they say it's wisdom to ask questions cos if you do, you won't miss your way.

With this in mind, we set out to ask some African Bloggers and website owners  some questions pertinent to owning and running a blog.

We present the first batch of answers.

Sisi Yemmie, How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging since 2010. I was studying for my masters degree in International diplomacy and I had so much time on my hands-I was so bored! My boyfriend then, now husband, suggested I try my hands on blogging- prior to that I never knew anything about it. That was when I started.

What do you primarily blog about?

I started out writing short funny stories about my experiences-people found them to be hilarious. After a while I rebranded and turned it into a lifestyle blog- restaurant reviews, tech reviews, recipes, hair and beauty tutorials and basically anything I like. More recently I have included what i term "reality vlogging" which is videos about my daily life.

Do you make money from your blog yet?

Oh yes! I wasn't previously because blogging was majorly a hobby. Since I moved back to Nigeria my eyes opened to the many possibilities and opportunities one can get through blogging and I have since embraced advertising and taking on blogging as my full time job.

What is the best way to monetise your blog?

Maximise all the avenues available. I make money through endorsements, being an ambassador for a brand, advertising products and services on my blog, covering events on my blog and youtube channel, showcasing brands on my social media platforms, getting paid to attend events. Anyway I can add value to a business I use it to add value to my pocket too.

What is your advice for those coming to the blogging scene?

Do it for the love of it. If you do't have the passion for it you will fizzle out. So focus on your content.

Titispassion, How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging on and off for years but got serious with it in April 2015.

What do you primarily blog about?

My blog is a lifestyle about my personal style, healthy recipes and natural hair care. I also on occassion blog about my travels and kids party planning.

Do you make money from your blog yet?

Yes I am beginning to monetize my blog primarily through different affiliate websites that I am a part of.

What is the best way to monetize your blog?

Joining affiliate companies is one way, collaborations with businesses is another way and also through ads on your website.

what is your advise for those trying to come on the blogging scene?

Be consistent with your blogging. Your content is king over everything else. Give people a reason to visit your blog. Decide what  you want your blog to be about and stick with it. Your website needs to be easy to navigate and inviting.

Ironyofashi How long have you been blogging?

I've been blogging for four years now.

What do you primarily blog about?

I primarily blog about fashion, lifestyle, beauty.

What is the best way to monetize your blog?

Best Way to monetize your blog would be through advertising and working as affiliates for brands.

what is your advise for those trying to come on the blogging scene?

People don't know there's good money that can be made from blogging. The best advice for  upcoming bloggers is to focus on being unique and creative, the blog world is somewhat saturated with lots of "fashion bloggers" so being different in your own way will make you stand out and lastly, consistency is key!
